Skirting and architrave jobs

After new floors

Timber, hybrid or laminate floors usually go in with the skirting off. We fit new skirting to sit on the new floor, covering the expansion gap the flooring needs.

Replacing damaged lengths

Skirting chewed by a dog, cracked by a vacuum or swollen by a leak. We cut out the damaged length and join in a matching piece, so you don't have to redo the room.

New profiles through the house

Swapping old colonial or ogee profiles for square-edge or bevelled boards. Architraves around doors and windows are usually done at the same time so the trims match.

Architraves around new doors and windows

Trims refitted after a door or window is replaced, mitred at the head and fixed to the jamb.

Choosing a profile and height

  • Height: taller skirting (90–135 mm) suits higher ceilings and older homes; low skirting suits modern rooms.
  • Profile: square-edge and bevelled are clean and modern; colonial and ogee profiles suit older homes.
  • Material: primed MDF is the usual choice for painted trims; timber suits a stained finish or a damp area.

Taking old trims off pre-2003 homes

Pulling off old skirting can disturb what's behind it. WorkSafe ACT says any property built before 2003 must be assumed to contain asbestos, and the business doing a refurbishment must have it identified first. Tell us the year the house was built. See the asbestos guide.

What to send us

  • Which rooms, and roughly how many metres of skirting
  • A photo of the profile you have, or the one you want
  • Whether the new floors are already down
  • Whether you want the trims painted
  • The year the house was built

Questions about skirting & architraves in Canberra

Should skirting go in before or after new floors?

After, in most cases: the new skirting sits on the finished floor and covers the gap the flooring needs at the wall.

Can you match my old skirting?

Many common profiles are still made. For older or unusual profiles, we look for the closest match or replace a whole wall so the change sits at a corner.

Do you paint the skirting?

Primed boards are ready for paint. We can include painting in the quote or leave them ready for your painter.

How is skirting priced?

Usually by the metre or the room, with corners and joins adding time. We haven't found a Canberra per-metre price we'd publish, so we quote it after seeing the rooms.

Can you do just one room?

Yes. Send the room's size and a photo of the profile.
