Wardrobe work we do
New built-in robes
A carcass built across a wall or into an alcove, scribed to the walls and ceiling so there are no gaps, with a kicker at the base and a bulkhead to the ceiling if you want one.
Fit-outs for existing robes
Old robes with one shelf and one rail, rebuilt inside with double hanging, shelving, drawers or shoe racks.
Sliding and hinged doors
Mirror, painted or laminate sliding doors on top-hung or bottom-rolling tracks, or hinged doors with soft-close hinges. We also replace worn tracks and rollers on old sliders.
Walk-in robes
Shelving and hanging space fitted around a small room, planned around the door swing and the light.
Planning the inside of a wardrobe
- Long hanging for coats and dresses needs about 1.6 m clear; double-hanging rails suit shirts and folded trousers.
- Drawers go at waist height or below; a set in the middle keeps the robe usable from both doors.
- Shelves above the rails take the bulky things you don't use every week.
- Door style decides how much you can see at once: sliders show half the robe, hinged doors open it all.
Built-in robes in older homes
Walls in older homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the end panels to the wall rather than leave a gap. If the robe means removing an old built-in or lining in a home built before 2003, tell us the year: WorkSafe ACT says such homes must be assumed to contain asbestos until checked (asbestos guide).
What to send us
- The wall width and the ceiling height
- Photos of the room and the wall
- What you want inside: hanging, shelves, drawers
- Sliding or hinged doors, and the finish you like
- Whether an old robe comes out first, and the year the house was built
Questions about built-in wardrobes in Canberra
How much does a built-in wardrobe cost?
The width, the inside fit-out and the doors decide the price. We'd rather quote your robe after seeing the room than publish a figure: the wardrobe prices we found for Canberra were either years old or copied national figures.
Sliding or hinged doors?
Sliders save floor space in a small bedroom; hinged doors open the whole robe at once and suit wider rooms. Both work in a built-in.
Can you build a robe in a rental?
A built-in is an alteration, so a tenant needs the lessor's written consent first under the ACT standard tenancy terms. Landlords and property managers can arrange it directly. See the Residential Tenancies Act.
Can you just replace the doors on my old robe?
Yes, if the opening and tracks suit. Measure the opening's width and height and send a photo of the top and bottom tracks.
Do you supply the materials?
We can supply the carcass, shelving, hardware and doors, or fit a robe system you've bought. Tell us which.
